Limestone County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Sisk is one of two finalists for the director of schools position in Hawkins County, Tennessee, according to reports.

The Rogersville Review reported Sisk will return to Hawkins County next Monday for a final interview with the board. The position is currently held by an interim director.

Following an Oct. 12 meeting, the Hawkins Board of Education narrowed the field of six candidates to two finalists — Sisk and Matt Hixson, an assistant superintendent of a 10,000-student Southern California school system.

The board evaluated the candidates’ responses by using a point system based on 20 questions. Hixson received the highest number of points, and Sisk finished second.

During a telephone conversation, Sisk said he was humbled by the opportunity, while at the same time feeling torn.

“If I am given the opportunity to meet with the Hawkins board next Monday, I will certainly do my best to make my case about how I can help them there,” he said. “But we absolutely love it here in Limestone County.”

Sisk said at this point, it would be premature for him to say whether or not he would accept the position if selected.

He insisted, however, that he would expect the Hawkins County school board to give him enough time to allow the Limestone County school board to find a suitable replacement.

“The good news is we will have plenty of time here to make sure that this school system is taken care of,” Sisk said. “I have spent too many sleepless nights making sure that this system is taken care of for me to jump ship and abandon them.”

With a little more than 7,000 students, the Hawkins County school district is slightly smaller than Limestone County, which now has more than 10,000 students.
