East Limestone’s defense completely dominated Ardmore, holding the Tigers to 54 total yards as the Indians rolled to a 34-0 victory in a Class 5A, Region 8 showdown.
It was the second straight game East Limestone’s defense has gotten a shutout, as the Indians defeated Arab 42-0 last week.
East Limestone’s offense wasn’t shabby either, rolling up 448 total yards, with more than 300 of them coming in the first half. The Indians led 28-0 at halftime before cruising to victory in the second half.
East Limestone took the opening kickoff and quickly drove for a score, with Zach Cosby finishing off the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run. After forcing Ardmore to punt, East had another quick scoring drive, with a long run from quarterback Andrew Parris setting the Indians up at the 4-yard line.
Cosby took it in on the next play and the Indians had a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
East Limestone put the game away in the second quarter with two more scores. Parris had a rushing touchdown early in the quarter on a 9-yard scamper, and the Indians scored again in the final few minutes of the half on a 2-yard run by Cosby.
Cosby’s touchdown was able to happen thanks to a video review. Officials originally ruled East Limestone had lost a fumble on the previous play. However, Indians coach Jeff Pugh challenged the call and officials went to the video monitor before determining the fumble did not occur and giving the ball back to East Limestone at the 2-yard line.
This is the first year the Alabama High School Athletic Association has allowed video review at schools that opt in to the program and purchase the video equipment.
The only score of the second half came on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Parris to C.J. Yarbrough late in the third quarter.
Parris finished the game with 137 passing yards on eight completions, while Yarbrough had 88 receiving yards on four receptions. Cosby was the leading rusher, with 156 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns.
Ardmore’s standout running back Chase Lay was held to just 39 yards rushing, which was nearly all of the offense the Tigers had in the game.
East Limestone improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in Class 5A, Region 8. Ardmore fell to 3-3 overall and 1-4 in region play. The Indians will host Brewer next week while the Tigers will play at Guntersville.
