Volleyball: Prep Athens splits Tuesday matches

Athens High split two matches against county rivals Tuesday evening, defeating Elkmont in two sets before falling to East Limestone in two sets.

The Golden Eagles began the night by defeating the Red Devils, winning the first set 25-13 before closing out the match with a 25-17 victory in set two.

Brooke Berzett led Athens with 11 kills, five aces and four digs, while Mary Greg Anderson and Gentry Wolfe combined for 10 kills. Gracie Green added nine digs and Alora Thompson had 22 assists in the victory.

Athens then fell to the Indians in two sets, dropping the first set 21-25 before losing 20-25 in the second set.

Berzett once again led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills and nine digs, while Elizabeth Elmore had eight digs for Athens. Thompson had 18 assists and nine digs.
