A $1,000 grand prize provided by American Leakless Co. to the Wacky Quacky Ducky Derby was won by Devin Pilk, one of the company’s employees.

Pilk was one of more than two-dozen people who won a prize at the 18th annual event, held Saturday at Big Springs Memorial Park in Athens. The purpose of the derby is to raise money for Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful.

Lynne Hart, executive coordinator for KALB, said 1,404 rubber racing ducks were adopted this year, a new record. She said there were so many ducks, they were divided into six heats.

The fastest ducks in each heat were pulled and raced against each other in the championship race. The first duck through the trap received the $1,000 grand prize. Twenty-five additional prizes were awarded according to the order they came through the trap.

Hart said she is grateful to the businesses that provided prizes.

“The sponsorship of prizes allows every dollar given to adopt ducks to go directly to supporting KALB’s projects and programs throughout the year,” she said. “We also appreciate the strong participation of our community in this fundraiser.”

American Leakless has sponsored the $1,000 grand prize for two years. In addition to that sponsorship, the company provided two $100 prizes and one $50 prize. The company also purchased 100 $25 Quack Packs of six ducks, which they gave to each of their employees to complete and enter into the derby. Pilk was the recipient of one of the Quack Packs.

Tina Finley, comptroller at American Leakless, said the company appreciates the KALB organization and the work it does for the community every day.

“When a city looks well-kept, it definitely gives the impression that it is safe, current, and a great place to raise a family,” she said. “We are honored to help support KALB.”
