Ardmore jumped out to a lead, but couldn’t hang on as its offense was stifled by Brewer’s defense in an 18-17 loss Thursday night.

All the points were scored in the first half, as both defenses dominated the second half. Ardmore’s only chance to score in the second half came in the third quarter, but the drive ended in a missed field goal. Ardmore was held to just one first down in the fourth quarter.

Ardmore jumped out to an early 14-3 lead after touchdown runs by quarterback Noah Barnett and running back Chase Lay.

However, Brewer came fighting back in the second quarter to take the lead. Patrick Johnson scored on a 4-yard touchdown run made the score 14-11 after a 2-point conversion.

Brewer’s Devin Weathers then recovered an Ardmore fumble and returned it 27 yards for a score to put the Patriots up 18-14.

Saul Rodriguez converted a 32-yard field goal attempt for Ardmore late in the second quarter to cut the deficit to one point, but the Tigers couldn’t get over the hump and fell to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in Class 5A, Region 8. Brewer is 5-1 overall and 3-1 in region play.

The Tigers will host region rival East Limestone next Friday.
