Athens drops tough match to Muscle Shoals

Athens suffered a tough loss to Muscle Shoals in an area match Tuesday, dropping the five set thriller 3-2.

The Golden Eagles fell behind early, dropping the first set 14-25. However, Athens came back to win the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-22.

But the Golden Eagles wouldn’t be able to win the final set they needed to close out the match. Muscle Shoals won the fourth set 25-21 before defeating Athens 15-8 in the tiebreaking fifth set to take the match.

Brooke Berzett had a great game in defeat, with 17 kills and 10 digs for Athens. Gracie Green had 13 digs and nine kills, while Gentry Wolfe had seven kills, four digs and two aces. Alora Thompson had 35 assists and 10 digs, while Elizabeth Elmore also had nine digs for the Golden Eagles.
