Ribbon cut on pop-up park

Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks prepares to snip the burlap ribbon stretched across the entrance to the pop-up park recently created by Athens Renaissance high school students. Open from Oct. 1 through the city’s bicentennial celebration on Nov. 17, the harvest-themed park is a piece of small-town America, Marks said. “This sort of thing is honestly what keeps making Athens a great community,” the mayor said. Thirty ARS students who meet for classes at The Exchange building on The Courthouse Square, devoted about 40 hours of planning and labor to make the park a reality. The space is located next to Terranova’s Restaurant on North Jefferson Street.
