- Lynne Hart and Sharon Porter, game players extraordinaire, were the big winners at the Athens Ladies Civitan’s recent 50’s Hot Dog and ice cream social. Lynne, director of Keep Athens Limestone Beautiful, is a long time member of the club and Sharon Porter, Alabama District North Civitan treasurer and transferring her membership from the Hanceville Club to Athens Ladies, has recently moved to Athens with her husband Steven Porter, new band director at Athens High School.
Rhonda McMullins and Lynn Lawrence dress the part for the Athens Ladies Civitan ‘50s hot dog and ice cream recruitment event on Aug. 28. Civitan is an international civic organization that supports programs for special-needs populations and the Civitan International Research Center at UAB, where research is conducted on brain injuries and developmental disorders such as the autism spectrum. In addition, the club awards an annual scholarship to a deserving Junior Civitan and an Athens State University student majoring in special education.
