Two late touchdowns doom Clements to defeat

Clements’ defense had not given up a point through 11 quarters of the season, but an inability to stretch that streak to 12 quarters cost them in a 15-7 loss to Phil Campbell Friday night.
The Colts took a 7-0 lead into the fourth quarter, but gave up two touchdowns in the final period to fall in their Class 3A, Region 8 opener.
Clements jumped on top early, as Cole Wales threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Thompson in the first quarter, but the Colts would not light up the scoreboard again.
The Clements defense snuffed out a potential Phil Campbell scoring drive in the second quarter, as Quez Redus forced a fumble at the goal line, which Tyler Starnes recovered in the end zone for a touchback.
However, the defense couldn’t hold out the entire game, as Phil Campbell scored twice in the final quarter to take the win.
The Bobcats’ first touchdown came on a 6-yard run by Ridge Raper, while Phil Campbell’s final score came on a touchdown run by Trey Leindecker.
Wales finished the game with 115 passing yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while Hunter Norwood had four catches for 56 yards. Jairrice Pryor had 52 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Clements will travel to play Westminster Christian next Friday in another Class 3A, Region 8 contest.
