Safety First

- Sharla Birdsong, the principal at the HEART Academy at Julian Newman Elementary School, directs traffic Thursday as a group of kindergartners safely make their way to parents waiting in the car line. Birdsong said the car line was particularly hectic because today marked the first day the entire kindergarten class was present.
Jade Anne Beasley, a kindergarten student in Lori Hobbs’ class, gets ahead of her mom, Andrea Beasley, on their way home from school Thursday. Andrea, who also attended Julian Newman as a child, said she enjoys walking her daughter to and from school every day.
