Athens splits Thursday matches

Athens split two matches Thursday evening, defeating East Lawrence before falling to West Morgan.
In the first match, the Golden Eagles took a commanding 2-0 victory over East Lawrence, winning the sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-7.

Brooke Berzett led Athens with six kills, five digs and five aces. Gracie Green had seven aces to go along with four digs and three kills, and Elizabeth Elmore had seven digs. Jillian Vickers also had five kills for the Golden Eagles while Alora Thompson had 13 assists and five aces.
The second match was much tougher, as West Morgan pulled out a close victory in the second set to win the match 2-0. The Rebels defeated Athens 25-18 in the first set before closing out the match with a 25-23 win in the second set.
Berzett had 11 kills to lead Athens, while Green had 10 assists, seven digs and four aces. Thompson had eight assists and four digs, and Elizabeth Elmore, Mary-Greg Anderson and Cameron Hoover combined for 10 kills.
