Firefighters on scene of Athens house fire; serious injury reported

- First responders are on the scene of a house fire on Washington Street in Athens. One person was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with second- and third-degree burns, according to emergency radio traffic.
At least one serious injury is being reported at a house fire in Athens, according to dispatch reports.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., Athens Fire & Rescue and Athens-Limestone EMS responded to a home in the 700 block of Washington Street. The fire was initially reported as a kitchen fire that was extinguished before firefighters arrived.
After officials arrived on the scene, they found an elderly male who appeared to have second-degree burns “from head to toe,” according to dispatch reports. First-responders have requested MedFlight to take the burn victim to a hospital for treatment.
