A local artist begins to paint one of the many Greek columns that will appear on a mural going up on the side of the building where Wildwood Deli is located on Market Street in downtown Athens. Set to be completed by the first week in October, the mural will depict several of Limestone County's staples, including its historical buildings, cotton fields, The Duck Pond in Athens, and the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention.

Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks makes the initial brush stroke on a 30-foot mural celebrating 200 years of Athens history. Paid for by a bicentennial grant from the state, the mural will be painted primarily by Athens High School art students.
