Citing a need for local demand, Calhoun Community College will soon offer Certified Six Sigma Green Belt exam preparation on its Decatur campus.
Six Sigma Green Belts are quality improvement team members who apply Six Sigma knowledge and skills to analyze and solve problems in a variety of industries, including automotive, health care and the nonprofit sector. Six Sigma is a methodology used to improve business processes by utilizing statistical analysis rather than guesswork.

This course provides an overview of Six Sigma and the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) problem solving methodology and includes both statistical and theoretical techniques used for continuous process improvement.
Jennifer Geiger, Calhoun’s Workforce Solutions manager, said Calhoun’s course differs from other programs because the goal is to prepare participants to receive the American Society for Quality’s Certified Six Sigma Green Belt. She said the certification is recognized nationally and globally.
Students who are unable to attend the class sessions in person may do so online. Class begins Oct. 8 and will meet from 5-8 p.m. on Mondays. The cost for the course is $695.
The certification exam is optional and participants must apply to sit for the exam with the American Society for Quality. ASQ requires a minimum of three years’ work experience related to the Green Belt body of knowledge.
