Williams helps Alabama to title

For the second consecutive year Ally Williams helped lead the Alabama team to a championship in the Southern Junior Cup.

After winning a foursomes match with partner Cole Davidson Wednesday afternoon, Williams, a rising senior at Athens High School, dominated in her singles match Thursday, defeating opponent Amber Wilson, of Missouri, 6 and 5.

Williams earned one of the 10 points Alabama golfers scored Thursday, helping them overcome a deficit after day won to win the cup with 19 total points. Arkansas was second with 17 points.

The Southern Junior Cup is similar to the Ryder Cup, with teams from Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri and Mississippi. Players from each team play match play rounds against other teams, with each team getting a point for winning the match.

Alabama had trailed 10-9 after the first day, but scored 10 points on Thursday while Arkansas could only garner seven.

This is the second consecutive year Williams has played in the competition, as she helped Alabama to the championship last year.

Williams is the No. 2 ranked female junior player in Alabama and has already committed to play golf at Mississippi State.
