Justin Vincent had an up-and-down tournament at the Alabama Boys State Junior Championship, played at Glenlakes Golf Club in Foley, with a bad opening round leaving him scrambling to play catch up the rest of the tournament.
When it finished, the recent Athens High School graduate found himself in 43rd place in a field of 105 golfers, and with an overall score of 15-over par.
Vincent’s tournament got off to a bad start when he carded a 10-over-par 82 in Tuesday’s first round, putting him in danger of missing the cut. However, he zoomed up the leaderboard with a fine round of 73 in Wednesday’s second round, allowing him to make the cut, which was at 13-over par.
His final round was fantastic through 15 holes, as he was at even par. But a bogey, double-bogey, bogey finish had him finishing his final round with a 4-over-par 76.
Only four players finished the tournament under par, with Nicholas Dunlap, of Birmingham, blitzing the field to win by five shots with an overall score of 10-under par.
