3 prisoners caught hours after overpowering jailer

HAMILTON, Ala. (AP) — Three prisoners are back in custody just hours after overpowering a jailer to escape from custody in northwest Alabama.

Authorities say three men being held at the Marion County jail escaped about 2 a.m. Thursday. A statement says the prisoners overpowered a jailer, but it doesn’t offer more details.

Officials say the men were back in custody about eight hours later, although they haven’t released details on the capture either.

The three men were being held on charges including rape, theft, criminal mischief, obstruction of justice and escape.
