A Madison man has been charged in a July 20 shooting that left his girlfriend seeking help at a local Mapco station, records show.

Mauricia Adaryll Corbett, 36, of 13606 E. Hatchett Road, shot his live-in girlfriend in the face and torso with a 12-gauge shotgun filled with birdshot, according to a complaint filed by Limestone County Sheriff’s Investigator Kristin King. The shooting occurred in their home.

Deputy Stephen Young, public information officer for the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, said the woman ran to a Mapco at the intersection of U.S. 72 and Old Railroad Bed Road for help after the shooting. She was transported by ambulance to Madison Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Corbett had placed his own call to authorities.

“He called and told dispatchers where he was on Old Railroad Bed Road and that he had put the shotgun in a ditch,” Young said. “He said when he saw deputies, he would wave them down, and he did. When he saw them, he put his hands up and got down without them asking.”

Young said Corbett had accused the girlfriend of shooting at him but he had no visible injuries.

“We did not recover a pistol, but several witnesses have said she had one,” Young said.

Corbett was charged with first-degree domestic violence and is being held in the Limestone County Jail with bail set at $100,000. Young said charges may change, however, as the case is currently set to go before a grand jury.
