Locals competing at All-Star Week

A number of Limestone County athletes will be showing off their skills in Montgomery next week as the Alabama High School Athletic Association All-Star Sports Week begins Tuesday.
All-Star Week takes place Tuesday through Thursday and features games played between North and South teams in baseball, softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls cross country, volleyball and football.

The week begins 4 p.m. Tuesday with a baseball game at Riverwalk Stadium. Athens Bible catcher Cade Abernathy will be playing for the North team. The softball game, which begins 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Lagoon Park Softball Complex, will also have a local, as Ardmore catcher Karla Hice will be playing for the North squad.
The girls soccer game also takes place 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex, with East Limestone midfielder Miriam Villamonte playing for the North.
The boys basketball game will take place 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Alabama State University Actadome. Limestone County was supposed to have a representative in the game, as C.J. Yarbrough, now at East Limestone, was selected to play. However, he is still recovering from injuries suffered in a fireworks accident July 4.
The 58th annual All-Star Football Game concludes the week and will take place 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cramton Bowl. Recent Athens High graduate Perry Kirby will take part in the game as outside linebacker for the North team.
Each of the All-Star Games are for rising seniors, except for the football game, which is for 2018 graduates.
