Lockheed Martin is looking for a few good men and women to join its Advanced Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship Program.
As part of an effort to find qualified candidates, the company is teaming up with the Alabama Department of Labor and state Department of Commerce’s Workforce Development Division to bring free informational sessions to junior colleges across North Alabama.

One of those sessions will take place at Calhoun Community College’s Decatur campus from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Aerospace Auditorium. Two earlier sessions will be held at Northwest Shoals Community College in the Bevill Center Environmental Lab. Those sessions will be 10 a.m.-noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m.
“This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is looking for a successful career in a high-paying, high-skill industry to take advantage of hands on training while still earning a wage,” said Fitzgerald Washington, secretary of the state Department of Labor.
The Advanced Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship Program is a five-week certification program designed to equip candidates with the skills necessary to build electronics hardware and develop a career in space operations. No experience is necessary to enroll in the program.
Participants are paid and offered benefits during the training program. Candidates who successfully complete the program may be offered full-time employment at Lockheed Martin.
The curriculum includes limited solder certification, and cable harnessing training. Training takes place at Lockheed Martin’s Courtland facility and is taught by the company’s space instructors.
