Babysitting class
Ardmore Public Library will host a teen Red Cross babysitting safety course 9 a.m.–2:45 p.m. today at the library in Ardmore. The class is for ages 11–16 and requires prior sign-up.

Boat Party
The 12th annual Elk River Boat Party, hosted by Bridget and Mike Jackson of Anderson Creek, will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, and will feature music by Kozmic Mama. The event is by boat only. From the Tennessee River, travel north on the Elk River and under Lee Hi/U.S. 72 bridge, then left on Anderson Creek. The nearest boat launch will be Lee Highway/U.S. 72.

Garbage pickup
Limestone County residents who are scheduled to have garbage pickup on Wednesdays will not have their pickup day affected by the Fourth of July holiday. However, pickup will run earlier than normal that day, so residents are encouraged to have their garbages cans ready the night before.

Libraries Rock!
Ardmore Public Library will host a series of summer events as part of the “Libraries Rock!” summer reading program. Each event will be held in the new addition to the library. Events include Safari Greg at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 11. All events are for ages 12 and under.
Swamp John’s fundraiser
The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives in Athens will hold its annual Swamp John’s fish fry 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the Limestone County Event Center. Cost is $12 for meal that includes fish, shrimp, chicken, fries, slaw, hushpuppies, drink and dessert.
Beans and rice
Tanner United Methodist Church will give a 1-pound bag of beans and rice to every adult who visits their church at 19607 Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road from 9–11 a.m. Saturday, July 14. No questions asked.
Fish fry fundraiser
The Limestone County Alabama Democratic Conference will host a fish fry fundraiser from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park. Plates are $10 each. Kiddie Carnival
Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival will be open 6:30–9:30 p.m. every Thursday, Friday or Saturday night June 28–Aug. 4 at 309 E. Forrest St., across from Athens Middle School. Rides for kids include ferris wheel, roller coaster, train, rocket ships, swings, carousel and more. A concession stand is also available with drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, chicken sandwiches, cotton candy, snow cones, funnel cakes and other.
Master Gardeners
Applications are now being accepted for the Limestone County Master Gardeners fall class. Class participants will learn to grow healthy landscapes or vegetable gardens, serve the community and become Certified Master Gardeners. Applications can be turned into the Limestone County Extension Office. Space is limited. The class costs $140 and will take place 5–8:30 p.m. Aug. 9–Nov. 8. SNAP signup
Retired Senior Volunteer Program is taking applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for ages 60 and older. Summer concert series
Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association and Jimmy Smith Buick-GMC are hosting “Singing on the Square” again this year.
