Tourism Director Teresa Todd said Tomcat and Bark the Dawg are popular regionally and should play songs for the crowd to sing along and dance to.

“We are expecting a great crowd Friday night,” she said.

Those who plan to attend should bring their own lawn chair. In case of rain, the concert will be at the Vietnam Veterans of America building at 17915 W. Elm St., Athens.

Fridays After Five

Also set for Friday is the first installment of Fridays After Five, which will be held the third Friday of the month through September. The downtown event will run from 5-8 p.m.

The purpose of Fridays After Five, which is presented by Athens Main Street, is to bring people downtown to dine, shop and enjoy live entertainment. Participating businesses and eateries will remain open on these Fridays. In addition, vendors will line the sidewalks of downtown to sell art, handmade items, jewelry and more.

“Fridays After Five is a true family event,” said Wendy Yarbrough, owner of Boneyard Antiques. “Don’t forget to bring your four-legged members. Boneyard Antiques will have a water station and will be giving away doggie bone treats.”

After evaluating previous Fridays After Five events, the Athens Main Street Board decided to add a Kids Zone, sponsored by WOW. The Kids Zone will include bubbles, coloring, corn hole boards, face paint, side walk chalk and a photo booth. It will be at the Exchange building on Marion Street.

“We hope that adding a kids zone will bring the whole family to downtown Athens for a night of fun,” said Amy Higginbotham, Athens Main Street board member and Fridays After Five chair.
