An Athens woman accused of intentionally scalding two of her children in a bathtub in 2015 will be tried in Limestone County the week of Aug. 13, said Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones.
Amanda Marie Reyer, 24, of 300 Bullington Road, remains jailed on six felony counts — two counts each of attempted murder, first-degree domestic violence and aggravated child abuse, court records show.

She and her former boyfriend, Derrick Lynn Defoe, 32, of 19235 Easter Ferry Road, Athens, are accused of scalding her 2-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son in the bathtub of their former home in the 21000 block of Tillman Mill Road on June 13, 2015.
On the evening of June 14, Reyer took the girl to Athens-Limestone Hospital, claiming she fell into a hot tub. The hospital visit prompted an investigation by the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, which determined the boy had also suffered burns.
The girl had second- and third-degree burns over 80 percent of her body, officials said at the time. Jones has said the toddler was placed in water up to her neck. She spent months in critical condition in the burn unit at Shriner’s Hospitals for Children in Cincinnati before being released.
The boy had second- and third-degree burns over 30 percent of his body. Jones has said the boy was standing in the tub.
The district attorney has said the scalding of the two children was intentional, but he has declined to offer a possible motive or other details because he said the case is pending.
Both Reyer and Defoe, who have been formally charged by the Limestone County grand jury, have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
