Before making off with a 50-foot garden hose from a Limestone County school, a Tennessee man first used it to wash his car, an official said.

Tommy Thompson, 24, of 6294 Elkton Pike, Prospect, Tennessee, is charged with third-degree attempted burglary and fourth-degree theft of property, records show. He is accused of trying to enter Sugar Creek Elementary School and a storage building on May 8 at 26595 Salem Minor Hill Road in the Lester community. He is accused of taking from school property the hose, brass hose nozzle, milk crates, rubber mats and a spigot key, for a total of $183 in stolen property.

Limestone County Sheriff’s Investigator Caleb Durden told The News Courier Thompson used the hose to wash his car before stealing it.

He was released from the Limestone County Jail after posting a $2,000 bond.
