Selma man convicted in slaying of student over cellphone

SELMA (AP) — A 22-year-old man has been convicted in the fatal shooting of girl killed over a cellphone.
Al.com reports a Dallas County jury found Larry Hunter Jr., who was 18 at the time of his arrest in 2013, guilty in the death of Alexis Hunter, who was shot in the head outside of Selma High School. The suspect and the victim were not related but knew each other.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said the jury delivered its verdict about 11 p.m. Thursday after five hours of deliberation. The trial began on Monday.
Hunter was one of two people charged in the killing. A second suspect has not yet gone to trial.
Dallas County Circuit Judge Donald McMillan has ordered a presentencing investigation for Hunter, who could face life in prison.
