JUNE 5 PRIMARY: Monday the deadline to register to vote

If you haven’t registered to vote in the June 5 primary elections, you have until the end of the day Monday to do so.

Registration closes 14 days prior to an election, which means May 21 is the cutoff. Applications can be downloaded at https://bit.ly/2wRoIwn or you may register in person at the Limestone County Board of Registrars, located on the second floor of the Clinton Street annex in Suite E.

Those who plan to vote absentee have until May 31 to apply for a ballot. The last day to hand-deliver an absentee ballot is June 1, while the last day to postmark an absentee ballot is June 4.

“If they postmark it on June 4, I don’t know I’d get it by June 5,” said Circuit Court Clerk Brad Curnutt. “My advice would be not to wait.”

Absentee ballots may be picked up at the Circuit Court Clerk’s office, located on the first floor of the Limestone County Courthouse. Visitors should enter on the west side of the courthouse through the first-floor doors.

Curnutt said Friday he had received about 120 absentee ballot requests. By comparison, there were about 270 absentee ballots cast in the 2014 primaries.

“I’ll have a lot come in on the Friday before the election,” he said.
