Locals perform well at sectional track meets

Numerous local track and field athletes found success at sectionals over the weekend, working toward qualifying for the state track and field meet for their respective classifications.
Participants can qualify for the state meet by finishing among the top participants in their local sectional meet or by being one of the best non-automatic qualifiers among all sectionals in their class, according to state guidelines.

Several local athletes took first place in their events, with numerous others placing well.
In the Class 1A, Section 4 meet, locals swept the top three spots in the 800-meter run, with Lindsay Lane Christian Academy’s Palmer Smith winning in a time of 2:14.16. Athens Bible’s Nicolas Ulrich was second and LLCA’s Jack Anderson third.
Ulrich also won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:05.52, while Athens Bible’s Ethan Wiles won the shot put with a heave of 41 feet, 2.5 inches.
In the Class 2A, Section 4, girls meet, the Tanner 100-meter relay team took first place in its event, while Nautica Noble won the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 5.5 inches.
Elkmont’s Chase Prater dominated his events in the Class 3A, Section 4, boys meet, easily winning both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs. He won the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:40.99 while his winning time in the 3,200 meters was 10:16.32.
West Limestone also had a winner in the Class 4A, Section 4, girls meet, as Cassidy Winter took top spot in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 50.11 seconds. Winter also finished second in the 800-meter run and fifth in the 1,600 meters.

The Class 6A, Section 4, meet featured two Athens athletes taking victories, as Micheal Boles-White won both the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.82 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 22:23 seconds. Caden Shoulders also took a victory for Athens, as he won the discus with a throw of 133 feet, 9 inches.
The state meet takes place this weekend, with the 1A-3A meet in Cullman and the 4A-7A meet in Gulf Shores.
