College students named to academic team

Forty-six students from across the state were recently selected to the 2018 All-Alabama Academic Team.
A total of $64,000 in scholarships will be awarded to those students, including the following from the Tennessee Valley:

• Hannah Campbell of Hartselle, a student at Calhoun Community College;
• Sean Hagood of Elkmont, a student at Drake State Community and Technical College;
• Zachary Mangum of Priceville, a student at Calhoun Community College; and
• Michael Nguyen of Huntsville, a student at Drake State Community and Technical College.
The students were recently announced by Alabama Community College System Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker, college presidents, and faculty and staff from across the state. The team members are selected by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for their demonstration of academic excellence and intellectual rigor, leadership and service, and commitment to extending their education beyond the classroom to benefit society.
“It is a great honor to recognize these 46 outstanding students from our community colleges across the state for their commitment to excellence and their service to their communities,” Baker said. “The individuals selected for the All-Alabama Academic Team represent our state’s best and brightest and I’m truly optimistic for our state’s future with students like these at the helm.”

The All-Alabama Academic Team recognition program was founded in 1995 to complement the All-USA Academic Team Program sponsored by USA Today, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and the American Association of Community Colleges.
