Calhoun to offer CompTIA certification prep courses

Calhoun Community College will offer accelerated summer courses to prepare individuals for CompTIA certification exams.

The exams will be from 8 a.m.-noon Monday through Friday from June 4 through July 20 on the Huntsville campus.

The CompTIA Summer Certification series will prepare students for the A+, Network+, and Security+ exams, which are the most commonly required certifications in the IT industry.

“Defense contractors and many other employers in the Huntsville area choose Security+ for DoD 8570 compliance and require it for employment,” according to Jennifer Geiger, Project Manager for IT Certifications at Calhoun. “Even with a two or four-year degree in Information Assurance, it is still difficult to find a job in IT without the CompTIA certifications. This is why we developed the summer program. It allows college students to prepare for these certifications in between regular semesters, added Geiger.”

The CompTIA Summer Certification Prep series is not only for college students. The series is offered through Calhoun’s Workforce Solutions division and is open to anyone 18 and over. Acceptance into the course is not contingent upon admission to the college.
