• Movie night. St. Mark Primitive Baptist Church will host movie night at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the church at 740 W. Sanderfer Road in Athens.
• Benefit yard sale. Salem Springs Baptist Church will hold a benefit yard sale at 7 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Quality Vinyl at the corner of U.S. 72 and Reid Road. Donations and proceeds go to Townsend mission trip in July.
• Free meal. Discovery Church will host a free chicken stew meal at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at 1207 E. Forrest St., Suite G, Athens. More information: Bill Downs, 256-431-1780.
• Ladies conference. First Baptist Church will host a ladies conference from 8:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Family Life Center, 201 E. Hobbs St., Athens. Conference speakers will be Leigh Ann Chandler Kephart, Rachel Brown and Kathleen Phraner. Tickets are $15 and include lunch. No nursery provided. • Mother Marie McDade Brunch. Alabama Fork CPCA will host the 2018 Mother Marie McDade Brunch at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the church at 21057 Alabama 127 in Athens. This free community brunch and ministry outreach for widows and orphans will also feature a panel moderated by Don Hudson and including panelists Dr. Eric Betts, Sylvia Smith, Ernest Collier, Lamont Dupree, Patrick Caver and George Lockett. Backpacks of self-care items will be collected for children in the foster care system. • Music for a Mission. First Presbyterian Church in Athens will hold its Music for a Mission event with performance by local band Simon Sez to benefit Camp Hope, an annual day camp that helps children who have lost a loved one. Event is 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the revival building at 303 W. Washington St. Refreshments are free but bring own seating.
• Swamp John’s fundraiser. Tanner United Methodist Church will hold a Swamp John’s fundraiser 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the church at 19607 Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road, Tanner. Cost: $11 per plate includes fish, shrimp, chicken, fries, hushpuppies, slaw and drink. Dine in or carryout. Tickets available at the door. Tanner UMC Women will also host a bake sale.
• Summer program. New Life Assembly in Athens is now enrolling children for its summer program, which will include field trips, games and water days for children in grades K-5. Program runs 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, May 29-Aug. 4. Cost: $35 nonrefundable registration fee; $125 per week plus one time $75 activities fee for full time; $35 per day for part time or $45 on field-trip days.

• Summer program. David’s Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Tanner will host Operation Timothy II summer program for children ages 5-13 from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. June 4-July 27 for $260 per child. More information: Dorothy Shoulders, 256-232-8035.
• Bible study. Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church invites all to its second summer outreach Bible study ministry at 7 p.m. every Wednesday night through Aug. 29 at Pincham-Lincoln Center in Athens. • After-school program. The after-school program from 3–5 p.m. Mondays-Fridays at David’s Temple Church in Tanner accepts children ages 5–18. Homework assistants, tutoring and study hall are available. Van pickup is available to all Athens City Schools except Athens High. Children from Tanner High can ride the bus.
