Bicentennial cemetery stroll to be rescheduled

The Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association announced Thursday the rescheduling of Saturday’s bicentennial cemetery stroll.

The stroll involves costumed re-enactors at Athens City Cemetery portraying citizens who played major roles in Athens and Limestone County history, according to the event website. However, the chance of inclement weather this weekend has already put a metaphorical rain on the theatrical parade.

“With the high percentage of rain, I would be remiss to subject them to foul weather,” Teresa A. Todd, president of the Tourism Association, said. “There are many characters who wear vintage outfits, linen, wool and other fabrics that wouldn’t fair well in inclement weather.”

The free event is now tentatively scheduled to take place in November. In the meantime, Todd said the historical walks in Athens and Elkmont, also scheduled this Saturday, will continue as planned.
