An Athens teenager suffered serious injuries to the face and arm Thursday morning after being bitten while trying to take a bag of food from a dog, an official said.
About 9:30 a.m., Athens Police Department and Athens Fire & Rescue responded to a call about a dog bite at a home on Vine Street, Capt. Trevor Harris told The News Courier.
“The teenaged victim and the dog were known to each other and live at the same residence,” Harris said. “The attack is believed to have occurred when the victim tried to take a bag of dog food away from the dog.”
Harris said the teen suffered “serious injuries to the face and arm.”
Members of Athens Fire & Rescue performed first-aid while animal-control officers from Athens Police Department restrained the dog to conduct an investigation.
The victim was rushed to Athens-Limestone Hospital for treatment.
No further information was available at press time on the victim’s condition, the dog’s breed or what will happen to the dog.
