Crouch pitches no-hitter as East Limestone beats Boaz

Olivia Crouch tossed a no-hitter as East Limestone picked up a 7-2 win over Boaz in the Gulf Coast Classic Wednesday morning.

Crouch’s dominant pitching allowed the Indians to overcome five errors. Three of the errors occurred in the first inning, which allowed both of Boaz’s runs to score.

East Limestone got back into the game with a run in the top of the second, and then took the lead with four runs in the top of the third. The big hit in the inning was a two-run double by Mallory Jo Mitchell. Allie Drake also had an RBI single in the inning.

The Indians then put the game away in the fourth inning with a two-run double by Kayleigh Tribble.

East Limestone finished with 10 hits in the game, with Drake responsible for two of them. Kaci Sharp also had a double for the Indians in the win.

Hartselle 5, East Limestone 1

Hartselle broke open a tie game with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and three more in the fifth in the final game of the Gulf Coast Classic Wednesday afternoon.

Hartselle scored a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead, but East Limestone tied the score in the top of the fourth inning with a run. But Hartselle answered right back with a run in the bottom of the inning before putting the game away in the fifth.

Maddison Watkins had two hits for East Limestone, while Allie Drake had the Indians’ lone RBI.

Athens 5, Lawrence County (Tennessee) 1

Athens High scored three runs in the top of the first inning, which was all they needed in a Gulf Coast Classic win Tuesday night thanks to the pitching of Maddie Wilson.

Wilson allowed just one run on four hits to get the pitching win in the five-inning game.

Mary Greg Anderson, Olivia McCurry and Gracie Green all had two hits for the Golden Eagles, while Green and McCurry also had RBIs.

Athens 7, Central-Phenix City 5

Athens jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but had to hang on as the Golden Eagles staved off a Central-Phenix City comeback attempt Wednesday afternoon.

The big hit in the first inning was a two-run single by Victoria Wilson, but Central came right back with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Athens expanded the lead with two more runs in the top of the second, as Wilson drove in another run with a single.

Wilson settled down after the first inning to allow just one additional run the remainder of the game, and the game ended after four innings due to the tournament time limit.

Wilson had two hits and three RBIs for Athens, while Anderson also had two hits for the Golden Eagles. Green and Olivia Patton also had RBIs in the win.
