- The West Limestone softball team poses with the championship trophy of the Falkville Varsity Tournament after defeating Elkmont 3-2 in the championship game Saturday afternoon.
West Limestone’s Reagan Clem might not have considered herself to be a clutch player, but she came through when the team needed her in the championship game of the Falkville Varsity Tournament Saturday.
With the game against Elkmont tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Clem launched a walk-off home run to give the Wildcats a 3-2 win and the tournament championship.
“Reagan talks about how she’s not very clutch, and it’s funny because she’s the one who ended up having the big hit,” West Limestone coach Natalie Wood said. “It was a really great weekend for us, and a great way for the girls to go into spring break.”
The Wildcats were dominant in the tournament, finishing with a perfect 6-0 record.
West faced the Red Devils in the final game Saturday with the championship on the line, and got off to a tough start, as Elkmont’s Haven Kirby led off the game with a home run to put the Red Devils up 1-0.
West Limestone answered in the bottom of the second on a double by Kynleigh Lopez, but Kirby hit her second solo home run of the game in the next inning to once again give the Red Devils the lead.
Lopez tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single, before Clem won it in the fifth with her home run.
Baily Browning was the winning pitcher, allowing just four hits and striking out 10. Three of Elkmont’s hits were from Kirby.
Lopez and Clem both had two hits for the Wildcats.
