Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful is accepting entries from students in grades 5-12 to design this year’s Earth Day T-shirt. Deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, March 16. Swamp John’s fundraiser

AHS alumni basketball fun

Swamp John’s dinner

Lighthouse Youth Group will hold a Swamp John’s dinner to raise money for summer camp from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Big Lots parking lot off U.S. 72 in Athens. Cornhole tournament

Registration is now open for Cornhole-for-a-Cure tournament to benefit American Cancer Society. Event is Saturday, April 28, at Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena, Alabama 99. Two-person teams needed for the event, which has 2-out-of-3 winners bracket and 1-and-done losers bracket. Fee: $40 in advance; $50 tournament day. Courts open 11 a..m.; competition at noon. Legion stew

The American Legion will hold its monthly chicken stew from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, March 20. Price is $7 all you can eat or quart carryout. Eat-in includes stew, drink and dessert. Carryout includes two desserts per quart, four desserts maximum are additional $1 each. Containers provided. Free delivery in Athens city limits for businesses or the homebound. Spaghetti dinner

Tickets are on sale now for the spaghetti dinner fundraiser held by Limestone County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association. The dinner is 4:30–8:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, at First Presbyterian Church revival building. Dinner is dine-in or carryout and includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and drink. Tickets are $8 for ages 11 or older, $4 for ages 3–10 and free for ages 2 or younger. All ages must have a ticket to participate. All proceeds benefit LCFAPA. Learn dance, help KALB

Class of 1969

Clements High School Class of 1969 will hold a reunion dinner 6 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at 306 Barbecue in Athens. This is the first reunion for the 21 classmates. Open to classmates and family.

Beauty walk

Elkmont Band Boosters will host the 13th annual Red Carpet Affair Beauty Walk April 13-14 at the Elkmont High School gym. Kindergarten through fifth grade divisions will be 7 p.m. April 13, infant- preschool divisions 2 p.m. April 14, and sixth-12th grades 7 p.m. April 14. The “Special Edition Senior Guys” division will take place after senior girls are crowned. Admission is $5 at the door. Registration opens Feb. 27 and ends April 2. Forms are available from the EHS front office and band room, from any band booster officer and from Keila’s Hair Salon in Ardmore. Entry fee is $35 with $5 per photo for photogenic category and must be paid at the EHS band room, to any band booster officer, at Keila’s Hair Salon or by mail to 29200 Ragsdale Creek Road, Elkmont. RSVP offers free income-tax filing assistance for low-income, disabled or elderly taxpayers now through April 12. Retired Senior Volunteer Program is taking applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for ages 60 and older. Care bags

Friendship Church is collecting items for their “Every Needy Child Care Bags” project. The project’s goal is to provide personal care items to children throughout Limestone County who are living in poverty. Items needed include youth and adult toothbrushes, youth and adult toothpaste, lotions, lip balm, soap or body wash, shampoo, conditioner and more.
