A homeless man was arrested Friday after he attempted to steal a drill and damaged a vehicle stopped at a red light, officials said Friday.

The victim told officers on March 6 he was stopped at a traffic light at U.S. 72 and Interstate 65 when Wesley Ford Tribble, 32, approached him to ask for money, according to Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson. Johnson said the victim did not give Tribble money.

Tribble allegedly then walked around the truck and took a Dewalt drill. According to Johnson, the victim got out of his truck and retrieved his drill.

“After a short time, the victim saw his vehicle had been damaged by Tribble,” the chief said. “The victim then called the Police Department and reported the incident. The victim knew Tribble and was able to identify him.”

Investigator Kelly Fussell obtained an arrest warrant for Tribble for unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle and arrested him Thursday. Tribble was booked at the Police Department before being transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
