Adidas to provide uniforms for East Limestone athletes

Student athletes at East Limestone High School will be getting new uniforms thanks to a deal with Adidas.

The decision to go with Adidas came after coaches and administrators heard pitches from “the big three” athletic brands—Under Armour, Nike and Adidas.

“They felt like Adidas was the best deal for the school,” Rusty Bates, director of transportation and athletics for Limestone County School said.

The school will be able to purchase apparel at 30 to 40 percent off of retail through an official provider like Lee’s Sporting Goods in Huntsville and will get back a percentage on everything they spend. Parents and students will be able to purchase additional uniform pieces and fan wear through an online provider set up by Lee’s Sporting Goods and Adidas.

Over the next three years, all of the school’s sports teams will make the transition to Adidas uniforms.

“East has been ordering uniforms every year or every other year, so we pretty much knew that all of their teams would need uniforms in the next three years,” Bates said. “That’s what makes the deal profitable for East.”

The more money a school spends with Adidas, the more the company invests back into the schools.

Before the Adidas deal, teams were using various vendors which resulted in variances in color shades and different depictions of the East Limestone Indian logo on their uniforms.

“We had all sorts of different shades of maroon on our uniforms,” Bates said. “It’s not about wearing Adidas, it’s about putting everyone in the same logos and colors so the school will be unified.”

From sport to sport, Adidas jerseys cost less than competitors like Nike and Adidas doesn’t customize their pieces. That’s good news for coaches who have to replace a damaged jersey mid-season.

Bates said that there have been cases in the past where it has cost the school $400 to replace an $85 jersey because it had been discontinued. Adidas has assured the school that won’t happen with them.

The company will also provide the schools with an East Limestone Indian-themed table cloth and back back drop for school signings.

Other schools in Limestone county are also looking into unifying their school sport’s teams under Adidas.
