Big innings propel Athens past West Limestone

Athens scored seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings to break open a close game and take a 10-3 victory over West Limestone Saturday morning.
The game was tied 3-3, but Athens scored four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. Jack Garvin drove in the first two runs with a double before Jacob McNairy drove in a run with a single and Daniel Cundiff plated the final run with a sacrifice fly.
Athens scored three more runs in the fifth inning, with the big hit being a two-run triple by Bryson Kirk.
Garvin finished the game with a double, a triple and three RBIs while Bailey Odell also had three hits for the Golden Eagles. Lars Stanford was the winning pitcher, striking out five batters in four innings of work.
Gage McKelvey had a hit and two RBIs for West Limestone, while Dalton Baugher had two hits and scored a run.
Friday’s results
Bob Jones 1-6, Athens 0-5
Athens dropped two close road games to Class 7A Bob Jones Friday night, falling by scores of 1-0 and 6-5.
Jacob McNairy was spectacular for Athens on the mound in the first game, allowing just three hits and no runs in six innings. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, Bob Jones pitcher Camden Hill was just as good, allowing just six hits and no runs in seven innings of work.
Bob Jones scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off single by Mitchell Daly.
Kade McHalffey had a double and a single for Athens.
The second game was equally as heartbreaking for Athens, as the Golden Eagles took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh, before Daly hit a two-run home run to win the game for the Patriots.
Athens had taken the lead with three runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth before Bob Jones won it in the seventh.
McHalffey doubled, singled, scored two runs and stole two bases for Athens. McNairy had a double and two RBIs for the Golden Eagles.
East Limestone 7, Lee 1
East Limestone scored five runs in the third inning to pull away and take a six-run victory over Lee-Huntsville.
Payton Jackson, Zachary Pyles, Michael Kassay and Nathanael Greene all drove in runs during the inning.
Hayden Carter finished with two hits, while Jackson had two RBIs in the victory. Jackson was also the winning pitcher, allowing just five hits and one run in a complete-game performance.
Clements 19, Columbia 3
Clements exploded for seven runs in each of the first two innings and put away Columbia in a five-run victory.
Alex Cole led Clements with two hits and three RBIs, while also scoring two runs. Eli Gilbert also had two hits for the Colts, while Lucas Bailey, Dorian McCullough, Kyle Shutes, Ryland Kirk and Isaac Evans each had a hit and an RBI.
Gilbert was the winning pitcher, allowing just one earned run and striking out five batters in four innings of work.
Lindsay Lane 17, Paint Rock Valley 0
Lindsay Lane scored 13 runs in the first inning in a shutout win over Paint Rock Valley.
Cameron Stutts, Charlie Morrison and Drew Turpen each had three RBIs in the win, with Stutts leading the way with three hits. Morrison, Turpen and Lee Davis each had two hits for the Lions.
Connor Holland and Morrison each had four strikeouts, as five Lindsay Lane pitchers combined for the shutout.
