Calhoun softball has a double sweep week on the road

Calhoun Community College took four victories this week, sweeping doubleheaders from Motlow College and Columbia State.

Calhoun defeated Motlow 9-2 and 9-5 Tuesday before beating Columbia State 6-3 and 9-4 Thursday.

Makenzie Smith had a home run and a double for Calhoun in its first win over Motlow, and De’Asha Gordon had three hits, including a double. Sydnee Uhlman was the winning pitcher.

Anita Bates and Taylor Jones both hit doubles for Calhoun in the second victory over Motlow. DeMarie Corley also had three hits in the win. Kendall Mills was the winning pitcher while Bates picked up the save.

Calhoun had a comeback victory in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader, as the Warhawks found themselves down 2-1 before scoring five runs in the sixth inning to take the win.

Gordon had another big game with three hits, including a double, while Jones, Smith and Jessica Shaw each had two hits. Bates was the winning pitcher.

Calhoun closed out its undefeated week with its second straight victory over Columbia State. Gordon led the team with four hits, including a double, while Smith had three hits, including a double. Elkmont’s Dakota McCurley also had a double for the Warhawks while Shaw and Makaila Aday had two hits each. Uhlman was the winning pitcher.

Calhoun improved its record to 13-3 and will begin conference play at 1 p.m. Tuesday when the Warhawks host Central Alabama Community College.

Prep Softball

West Limestone 13, Clements 1

West Limestone scored eight runs in the second inning and five more in the third to post a five-inning victory over Clements in Tuesday’s softball action.

Raegan Clem led the Wildcats with three hits and two RBIs while Kynleigh Lopez and Victoria Carroll both had two hits and two RBIs.

Baily Browning was the winning pitcher, striking out eight batters in five innings of work.
