County schools offer district choice

Starting March 1, the Limestone County School system will open up registration for out-of-district students who want to enroll in the 2018-2019 school year.

Acceptance is based on space and the student’s academic performance, attendance and discipline record. Students from outside the district must attend the county school that is located closest to their home. Contact Limestone County transportation director, Rusty Bates, for more information about zoning at 256-233-5130 or by email at rusty.bates@lcsk12.org.

Once accepted, parents pay an annual $599.67 household fee, plus a non-refundable $25 application fee per school. For example, a family of three with elementary and high school students would pay one yearly fee, but two separate $25 application fees.

Tucker added that a growing number of out-of-district families are interested in sending their children to Limestone County schools thanks to their strong career technical presence, sports offerings, and one-on-one adult-to-child mentoring program. She also pointed out that the district continues to add Advanced Placement class options and all county high schools have dual enrollment programs for qualifying students.

Those interested in enrolling their child in the Limestone County school system can apply in person at their designated school. More information about the process and enrollment forms can be found at www.lcsk12.org.
