Those who want to learn more about Democratic candidates for office are invited to attend a town hall meeting Tuesday in Madison.
The event runs from 7–9 p.m. at the Country Inn & Suites, 101 Westchester Drive, Madison.
“We believe it is the job of the party to facilitate getting candidates in front of voters, and voters need the opportunity to ask questions of those who seek to represent them,” said Mike Smith, chairman of the Limestone County Democratic Party. “It is our intention to hold these town halls regularly from now until November all across the 5th District. So, stay tuned, there will be one coming near you.”
Candidates anticipated to be in attendance include:
• Amy Wasyluka, candidate for State Senate District 2;
• Mike Smith, candidate for State Senate District 2;
• Hanu Karapalem, candidate for Limestone County Commission District 3;
• Mike Blakely, incumbent candidate for Limestone County Sheriff; and
• Roger Williams, candidate for Limestone County Commission chairman.
Of those candidates, only Wasyluka and Smith will appear on the June 5 primary ballot because they are seeking the same office. Williams will face incumbent Republican Chairman Mark Yarbrough and Karapalem will face incumbent Republican Commissioner Jason Black in the Nov. 6 general election. Blakely will face Republican challenger Eric Redd in the general election.
