Athens High School was well-represented in the state wrestling meet Saturday at Huntsville’s Von Braun Center, with four Golden Eagle wrestlers placing in the top 3 of their respective divisions at the Class 6A meet.

Senior Thomas Carter finished his high school wrestling career with a second-place finish in the 182- pound division, while Dean Cowart also placed second in the 138-pound division.

Two more Athens wrestlers placed third, with Trent Young finishing third in the 126-pound division while Ryan Tibaldo placing third in the 152-pound division.

Athens finished fifth in the team competition with 97 points. Oxford was the state champion for the second consecutive year, finishing with 203 points.

East Limestone also had a wrestler placing in the meet, with Sam Allred taking home third place in the 138-pound division in the Class 1A–5A meet.
