OPIATE ADDICTION: Groups to host awareness event

Tennessee Valley residents are invited to learn more about the dangers of opiate addiction through a special presentation and film screening.
“Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict” will be shown 6 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Bob Jones High School in Madison. The event is presented by the FBI Birmingham Citizens Academy Alumni Association, the Birmingham Division of the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Included in the program will be a panel discussion meant to raise awareness of drug abuse and negative effects of opiate addition. The film’s content has been provided by real people who abused opiates or whose children abused opiates.
The objectives of the panel discussion are to interact with the community about the content covered in the film and to integrate ideas to be proactive in the fight against drug abuse.
The event will be moderated by WAFF-48 anchor Liz Hurley. WAFF-48 is an official media sponsor.
All registered attendees will receive a DVD of the film, limit one copy per household.
