The case of a former East Limestone Boy Scout leader charged with possession of child pornography will be heading to trial, District Attorney Brian Jones said Friday.

Robert Glen Kahler, 51, of 17078 Ennis Road, Athens, has denied downloading hundreds of pornographic images of children to his computer and is requesting a trial in Limestone County Circuit Court. He declined to plead guilty during a settlement docket this week and is requesting a trial.

A former Boy Scout leader in the East Limestone area, Kahler stepped down from the position after a search warrant was executed at his home in July 2014. He was arrested on the possession charge in June 2015.

Investigators with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were conducting an online investigation into the sharing of child pornography files in May 2014 when they discovered one suspect, Kahler, lived in Limestone County, Young said.

They notified Limestone authorities, who obtained a search warrant that was executed July 3, 2014, at Kahler’s residence. Kahler’s computers were seized, sent for forensic examination and revealed hundreds of pornographic images of children, the deputy said.

He has remained free on bond since his initial arrest.
