Limestone Co. Tournament: Tanner boys, Ardmore girls win in 1st round

Tanner got 16 points from Nathan Montgomery off the bench, as the Rattlers used a strong third quarter to defeat host school Elkmont 58-46 in the opening round of the boys Limestone County Tournament on Monday night.
Tanner, the tournament’s No. 4 seed, led 30-25 at halftime, but outscored the fifth-seeded Red Devils 18-7 in the third quarter to pull away.
In addition to Montgomery’s 16 points, Tanner got contributions from Jaquan Thompson with 10 points and C.J. Yarbrough with nine.
Patrick Jobman had a big night for Elkmont, scoring 24 points, but no other Red Devils player scored in double figures, with Ben Hobbs being the next highest scorer with nine points.
Tanner advances to play top seed East Limestone in the tournament semifinals at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Limestone County Girls Tournament
Ardmore 58, West Limestone 48
Some hot outside shooting led Ardmore to a victory over West Limestone in the opening round of the girls tournament.
The No. 4 seed Tigers trailed 9-4 early, but went on a 10-0 run to take a 14-9 lead over the fifth-seeded Wildcats after the first quarter and never trailed again.
Ardmore hit nine 3-pointers in the game, with Madison Lewis making five of them. Lewis led all scorers with 22 points. Maddie Hodges scored 13 points for the Tigers while Chesney Widner chipped in with 11.
West Limestone was led by Cassidy Winter with 21 points and Savannah McConnell with 14.
Ardmore advances to play top seed East Limestone in the tournament semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Tuesday’s varsity tournament games feature Clements taking on Elkmont at 6:30 p.m. in the girls game and Clements facing off against Ardmore at 8 p.m. in the boys contest.
