When hospital personnel could not subdued him to sedate him, they called Athens Police Department. When he would not comply to officer commands, he was warned he would be subdued by Taser. He had been throwing medical supplies and equipment. Police decided to Taser him. Randy suffered cardiac arrest following the Tasering and was taken to Huntsville Hospital, where he died Feb. 8.

The police released body camera footage of the incident.
