Frequent flyers who use Huntsville International Airport are likely celebrating Tuesday’s news that United Airlines will soon offer nonstop flights to Chicago, Washington and Denver.
“We are thrilled that United made the decision to add service to the Huntsville market, and we know that our customers will appreciate more options and will utilize this service,” said Betty Fletcher, chairman of HIA’s board of directors.
Starting June 7, United will offer daily flights from Huntsville to Washington/Dulles with flights departing at 1:32 p.m. and arriving in Washington at 4:25 p.m. Two flights will be offered to Chicago, with the first departing at 9:50 a.m. and the second at 6:24 p.m. Two flights will also be offered to Denver, with the first scheduled for 8:15 a.m. and the second at 2:45 p.m.
“United has been a proud member of the Huntsville community for nearly 50 years,” said Jake Cefolia, United’s vice president of Sales. “We are pleased to announce that customers will now have access to more flights … and more opportunities to connect to flights across the United States and internationally.”
While airport officials recognize the benefits of the added service, they say continued growth will require the support of the community.
“United sees potential in Huntsville’s market, and we are glad they chose to expand their presence in HSV,” said Rick Tucker, executive director of the airport. “This is great news, and if the business community and our residents support our local airport, we will all enjoy more air travel options with guaranteed lower fares.”
