Community march

Limestone County NAACP will lead a community unity march to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. starting at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, on the Washington Street side of the Limestone County Courthouse. The march will travel once around the courthouse, then continue down Marion Street to Pryor Street before ending at the Limestone County Event Center for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day program and the presentation of essay contest winners at 9:30 a.m. More information: 256-227-8489.

Hound Dog Half Marathon

Elkmont’s Hound Dog Half Marathon will take place 8 a.m.–noon Saturday, Jan. 20, starting at 18890 Upper Fort Hampton Road, Elkmont. Registration for the 13.1-mile race is $80 and ends Jan. 16, with proceeds to benefit Elkmont High School’s cross country and track/field programs. A custom finishers award and awards for age groups, overall and seventh place will be given. Packet pickup is 4–7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, and 6–7:45 a.m. the day of the race at Elkmont Town Hall. Master Gardeners

The Master Gardeners Spring Course will begin 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. The 14-week course meets every Thursday from 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Seats are limited. Dance classes

The Dance Academy is hosting the following dance classes starting Jan. 9 at 2108 Mall Road, Florence: Beginner Level 2 Tango, 6–7 p.m. Tuesdays; Beginner Level 1 Foxtrot, 7–8 p.m. Tuesdays; and Beginner Level 4 Shag (Carolina), 8–9 p.m. Tuesdays. Chili Challenge

Registration is now open for the Hospice of Limestone County Chili Challenge to be held Feb. 24 at Athens High School. All businesses and community groups are eligible to sign up as challengers. SNAP signup

Retired Senior Volunteer Program is taking applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for ages 60 and older. The SNAP program helps low-income people buy the food they need to stay healthy. Call 256-232-7207 or come by the RSVP office at 409 W. Washington St. in Athens Mondays through Thursdays to complete the application.

Tutors wanted

Tanner book-lending machine

Stability classes

East Limestone Senior Center will host SilverSneakers stability class from 11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m. every Thursday at 25820 Nick Davis Road. SilverSneakers is a group exercise class designed to keep participants safe on their feet. The class will include standing and walking exercises designed to decrease the risk of falling.
