2018 ELECTION PREVIEW: Numerous offices up for grabs this year

If 2017 was fraught with political tension because of the seemingly never-ending U.S. Senate race, voters can likely expect more drama this year.

Depending on the outcome of two primaries, there could be as many as five elections in 2018. Granted, two of those races only apply to Limestone County voters who live in State House District 4.

“It’s shaping up to be a really busy year,” said Probate Judge Charles Woodroof, who is also up for re-election this year.

The first election of the new year is set for Feb. 27. It is a runoff between Republican House District 4 candidates Tom Fredricks and Parker Moore. In a three-way Republican primary Dec. 12, neither man pulled 50 percent of the vote. Parker Moore garnered 44.67 percent of Limestone County votes, compared to 38.68 for Fredricks and 16.64 percent for Tom Willis.

The winner of the runoff will face Democratic candidate Juanita Allen Healy of Decatur in the second election of the year May 15. The District 4 seat will be up for grabs again less than a month later in the June 5 primaries.

All Limestone County voters will have a chance to cast a ballot in the June 5 primaries. Numerous offices will be on the ballots in that race, though offices that have no opposition will not appear on the ballot. Runoffs, if necessary, will be held July 17. The 2018 general election will be Nov. 6.

Offices on the June 5 primary ballots are as follows. The list also includes the incumbent and term limit for each office:
