He is charged in the Aug. 11, 2015, fatal wreck on Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road that killed Clyde Paul Crawford, 68, of Lacey’s Spring, a commercial van driver for Overnight Parts Alliance in Irondale.

Officials said Crawford’s van was eastbound on Huntsville-Browns Ferry when the southbound log truck struck his driver’s side at the intersection with U.S. 31. He was declared dead at the scene.

The impact of the wreck caused the log truck to flip over, spilling dozens of logs onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 31.

Witnesses at the scene told Athens police Oden ran a stoplight before his truck struck Crawford’s van. Oden was driving for Eva-based Bobby Collins Logging at the time.

He was not initially charged by law enforcement. The case was presented to the Limestone County grand jury, and jurors indicted Oden on the manslaughter charge Jan. 12. He was arrested Sept. 7 on the warrant from the indictment and released on $15,000 bond.

Circuit Judge Robert Baker will preside at the arraignment.

Lawson has retained local attorney Lucas Beaty to defend him, according to court records.
